At the races: Hialeah

Hialeah, FL, late January–early February

Ross and his wife and son probably arrived in Florida sometime between mid and late January 1939. It is plausible that they visited St. Augustine first, being their itinerary’s most northern town recorded in their footage. After that we can only guess. Did they go to the Silver Springs resort first? Or did they go straight to Miami and Miami Beach for Ross’s speaking engagement, as the travel book by Ralph Colin Ross suggests? If one accepts that itinerary, then the Everglades would be their next destination.1 There being no record of a speaking engagement there, no definite itinerary in this state can be made. Hialeah could have been visited before Miami and the Everglades as well as after. Hence the uncertain time frame.
