New Guinea 3
According to Ross’s writing and photography captioning in his travel book Haha Whenua - das Land, das ich gesucht (1933), much of this sequence was shot in a small village on the southeastern coast of the Territory of Papua, near Samarai. As the tale of how the Rosses observed the dance is obviously vastly different from the photographic and filmic record, the sequence could also have been filmed in Hanuabada near Port Moresby, like much of the other footage of indigenous culture on the island of New Guinea. Either way, it was shot in November 1929.
