As Ross is very close to Cairns, from where he would depart for Port Moresby (Territory of Papua) on November 1, 1929, and in chapter 45 he had already worried about Queensland’s hot summer, October is the likeliest date for the writing of this chapter. As the article is less a travel report than an editorial, the dateline could also easily be false.
